Baked Navy Beans

  • 1 lb navy beans
  • 12 cup water
  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, chopped
  • dash of paprika
  • dash of garlic salt
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp. tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 lb sliced bacon

Directions

Rinse and sort beans. In a large pot, add beans, water, ham bone, onion, bell pepper, paprika, garlic salt, salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil for 10 minutes, reduce heat, cover and simmer about 1.5 hours or until tender. Remove ham bone. Add ketchup, Worcestershire and brown sugar, and mix lightly. Pour half the mixture into baking dish; cover with half the bacon strips in a single layer. Pour remainder of mixture into dish, and arrange the remaining bacon strips in a second layer on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1.5 to 2 hours. Serves 6-8.
